A WOMAN has been rescued from a car trapped by floodwaters as rivers and brooks in the county are placed on flood alert.

Firefighters rescued the occupant of this car from Bicester Road, between Launton and Marsh Gibbon, this morning after they got into trouble when passing underneath a bridge.

The woman who was rescued had been stuck in the vehicle for two hours.

The road there is now closed.

The rescue comes as rivers and brooks in the county remain on flood alert, including Langford and Wendlebury Brooks, and the River Ray, in that area.

The rivers affected are the River Evenlode, from Moreton in Marsh to Cassington, and the River Glyme, at Wooton and Woodstock.

The EA has said that levels on the River Evenlode have risen and started to stabilise at the top of the catchment in response to last night's rainfall.

The rain, it says, should clear away leading to a dry day and night.

Flooding of low lying land and roads is expected to continue until this afternoon.

There is also now an alert for possible flooding for the River Cherwell from Charwelton to just above Upper Heyford.

Property flooding is not currently expected.

In a statement, the EA says: "Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings. Flood waters may be deep and fast flowing.

"Please refer to river levels on the internet for current river levels. This message will be updated tomorrow morning."

There are no warnings issued for the River Thames or the River Windrush.
