ENGINEERS are hard at work trying to reconnect 400 homes after heavy winds caused a number of power cuts this morning.

Oxfordshire was being battered by strong winds this morning, with a yellow weather warning in place by the Met Office up until 9am.

As a result, drivers heading to work this morning were faced with dysfunctional traffic lights and trees fallen in the road.

Energy provider SSE said that 390 customers were off supply in the Oxfordshire area, in and around Kidlington, Somerton, Carterton and Cottisford.

The high winds which swept across the county in the early hours of this morning caused damage to sections of the overhead network.

Engineers are currently out on site at all of the parts of the network which were damaged and are carrying out repairs.

A spokesman said: "We would like to apologise to our customers who have been affected by a powercut this morning, and assure everyone that we have engineers doing everything they could to restore supplies as safely and as quickly as possible."
