LOGAN star Dafne Keen has been revealed as the young actress who will play the lead role of Lyra in the TV adaptation of His Dark Materials.

Last month it emerged that Cardiff-based Bad Wolf production company has been given the tricky task of adapting Oxford author Philip Pullman’s much-loved fantasy trilogy.

His Dark Materials is made up of novels Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

The first instalment was adapted for the big screen in 2007 starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, with Lyra played by Dakota Blue Richards.

But it was not a critical success and fans are hoping the trilogy will be better served by instalments on TV, written by Jack Thorne.

The series will be filmed in part in Oxford.

Mr Thorne said earlier: “It is such an honour and a privilege to be given this opportunity to delve into Philip Pullman’s world.”

Ms Keen is best known for her role in last year’s X-Men film, Logan, where she played X-23, a cloned version of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

The actress is the daughter of British actor Will Keen, and Spanish actress, theatre director and writer María Fernández Ache.

The 12-year-old actress made her acting debut in 2014 in TV series The Refugees. The new eight-part series of His Dark Materials is set to start production in Wales soon.

Dakota Blue Richards, who went on to play WPC Shirley Truelove in Endeavour, has now left the series, set to return for a sixth time next year, ITV has confirmed.
