A POPULAR Oxford footbridge needs to be fully gritted during cold weather, says a man who witnessed someone fall down ice-covered concrete steps yesterday.
John Reynolds took to social media to raise the issue, tweeting at Oxford City Council on Sunday: "Someone please do something! This is a very busy footbridge at Friars Wharf.
"Someone has just fallen down the concrete steps."
He told the Oxford Mail he witnessed the person fall at around 3.15pm, adding: "No grit anywhere. Impossible for anyone with a pushchair."
"A young able-bodied person slipped and fell heavily on their left side attempting to go down the steps on the city side of the bridge. Luckily, no intervention was required.
"Suggest the council prioritise this walkway next time ice or snow is forecast."
The city council responded to Mr Reynolds' message this morning saying they had passed the information on to the 'relevant department'.
It later tweeted, at 2.48pm, to say the path had been cleared.
