A 75-year-old woman has raised the alarm after two suspected burglars went into her house offering to 'clean her jewellery' with window cleaning solution.

The woman was at home in Donnington Bridge Road at about 3.15pm yesterday when she said a man came to her flat asking if he could fill up a plastic spray bottle that he was using to clean windows.

She let the man in and he used water in the kitchen. He sprayed her windows with the substance, then told her to place jewellery that was around her neck into the sink so it could also be sprayed. The man then left and returned with another man and they both had a look around the property.

The two men were frightened off after the elderly woman’s son and daughter-in-law were challenged them over what they were doing.

Nothing was stolen in the incident.

One of the offenders was a white man, with a scruffy beard, and had an Irish accent. He was wearing a dark bobble hat and was holding a spray pump bottle.

The second offender was a white man, of stocky build, who was aged in his forties and 5ft 7ins tall.

Investigating officer PC Christopher Kidd, of Cowley police station, said: "It is possible that these men targeted other properties in the area and we are asking any residents who were offered this sort of cleaning service to contact us.

"We would also like to hear from any drivers who have dash cam footage from Donnington Bridge Road at the time of the incident."
