CAMPAIGNERS will be rewarded for their tireless work to keep Oxford tidy today at a reception in parliament.

Representatives from OxClean are travelling to London to meet with MPs and other supporters in the House of Commons.

The group organise the city's annual spring clean, held in March, which sees hundreds of volunteers go out onto the streets to help clean up the area where they live.

Despite being snowed off on the original weekend, the 11th OxClean held earlier this year saw events take place throughout the city.

In two Blackbird Leys roads alone 27 sacks of litter, including more than 300 plastic bottles, was collected in just a few hours.

OxClean creator Rosanne Bostock, who was inspired to start the initiative after coming across a similar campaign in Australia, will be among those attending the parliament event along with Chris Church, of Oxford Friends of the Earth.

Some of Oxfordshire's MPs are expected to meet the campaigners at the reception, which is being held to honour volunteers who have taken part in the national Great British Spring Clean.

Last year OxClean launched the Spotless Oxford campaign to encourage businesses to clean up outside.
