A WOMAN in her 50s is in a life-threatening condition after crashing into the central reservation of the M40 in Oxfordshire.

The collision happened shortly before 8.30am between junction 6 and 7 near Thame and it is believed to have involved just one car.

Its driver, a woman in her 50s, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital by land but initially treated by an air ambulance.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said the car went into the central reservation and the woman was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The incident had caused severe delays throughout the morning but the road is now clear.
