AN EYEWITNESS who watched Christopher Lemonius beaten to death ‘lied’ to police and couldn’t have seen the whole ordeal as her view was obscured, a court heard.

As the trial into the killing of the 27-year old in Blackbird Leys continued at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, defence barristers took turns to quiz Julie O’Dong, who lived at Jourdain Road and saw the alleged murder on June 1 at about 11pm.

Yesterday Bernard Tetlow QC, representing one of the six men charged with murder – Carlos Spencer – put to Ms O’Dong that she had made up her account to police.

Earlier this week she told jurors that she had seen about six men beating Mr Lemonious to death with poles and golf clubs.

He said: “I am putting to you they were lies to the police. You could not have seen any of that area there and you were telling police that it all happened on that patch of grass. You could not see the back door, you have agreed you could not see quite a large chunk of that back garden.”

He asked: “From there, sitting on your mother’s bed, you cannot see the whole of the garden can you?"

She replied: “As I said before, no you cannot.”

Mr Tetlow asked again: “You cannot see the back door...you cannot see the patch of grass just to the right of the door.”

She admitted: “No you cannot see that from the window,” but added: “I cannot confirm how much of the grass I could see but I saw him being beaten.”

Six Oxford men all deny murdering the 27-year old near Jourdain Road on June 1 last year: Yasine Lamzini, Otman Lamzini, Rashaun Stoute, Yousef Koudoua, Connor Woodward and Carlos Spencer.

Meanwhile, a juror was discharged at the beginning of proceedings yesterday for health reasons and the panel will now consist of 11 members - seven women and four men.

The trial continues.
