A GANG of ‘men in black’ attacked 'a lone man' with golf clubs and baseball bats in Blackbird Leys Park on the night Christopher Lemonius was killed, a court heard yesterday.

Six Oxford men all deny murdering the 27-year old at nearby Jourdain Road on June 1 last year – Yasine Lamzini, Otman Lamzini, Rashaun Stoute, Yousef Koudoua, Connor Woodward and Carlos Spencer.

Prosecution allege Mr Lemonius was chased through the park from the Premier Store in Pegasus Road to Jourdain Road, where he was ‘hacked’ to death by the group.

As the trial continued at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, barristers defending the men cross-examined a woman who saw a man she believes was Mr Lemonius being hit with golf clubs and baseball bats in the park at around 9.30pm.

She gave her evidence anonymously and was referred to only as Emma.

Annette Henry QC, representing Yasine Lamzini, quizzed her about the police interview she gave. Ms Henry suggested to 'Emma' that she had seen several of the defendants in and around the Premier Store, including her client, ‘scatter’ to the park and then subsequently seen a gang of five or six people in black arrive, hit a man on the ground then flee.

Ms Henry suggested the two groups were entirely separate, saying: “You say in the interview, ‘then out of the blue I saw about five men in pure black, I couldn’t see a bit of skin on them’.”

'Emma' admitted: “I can’t say whether they were the same or not.”

David Hislop QC, representing Woodward, also cast doubt on whether the man attacked had actually been Mr Lemonius.

To the witness he said: “You knew Christopher Lemonius by sight. Can we agree that you didn’t see him in the field?”

She replied: “I couldn’t see the person because it was dark and he was low but I believe it was him.”

Also on trial are Allal Lamzini, 69, and Yamina Lamzini, 57, both of Jourdain Road, Oxford, who each deny one count of perverting the course of justice.

Saffon Fakir, 26, of Territorial Way, Oxford, and a 17-year-old boy from Oxford who cannot be named for legal reasons, also deny one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The trial continues.
