A TRADITIONAL Brazilian classic will be returning to Oxford’s famous market following a top hygiene score.

Josiane Lessa, who runs the business Josi Savoury and Sweet single-handedly, said that she is hoping to return to Gloucester Green Market to continue trading after leaving when she got pregnant.

The market trader, who now serves up sweet and savoury treats from her home, received the top score of five stars on a hygiene rating after only months of selling.

Known for specialising in Brazilian classics, the mother-of-two said that the traditional Brazilian goods on offer include coxinhas, a Brazilian chicken croquette, cheese balls and Brazilian churros, which are filled with caramel making them different to the Spanish churros.

She added: “In Brazil this food is traditional, you would find it in all the food shops.”

Mrs Lessa explained a bit about the history of the foodie favourite, which has racked up just shy of 3,000 fans on Facebook: “I originally started the business from home.

“We then moved to the market around this time last year, in May or June of 2017.”

She added that when she became pregnant earlier in the year with her second child, she began to run the business from home in Oxford.

Customers can place an order for their favourite treat over the phone or via the Josi Savoury and Sweet page on Facebook.

The one-woman band added: “I received the five-star food rating in November, after I had started working at Gloucester Green Market.”

She said that she was very happy with the result adding that ‘the rating is very important’.

The national hygiene scheme uses guidance from the Food Standards Agency to provide consumers with at-glance information about the standards of an institution.

Results are generated from planned business inspections run by district and city councils.

The aim is to help shoppers make informed choices about where they eat and shop for food.

Businesses that are inspected are scored from zero to five, with low scores meaning urgent improvement is necessary, and the top score, five, meaning that standards are very good.

Josi Savoury and Sweet scored the top result.

Mrs Lessa said that she hoped to return to the popular market ‘this summer, probably around June’ to start trading again.

Located in the city centre, the traditional market, held three times a week, boasts traders selling delicacies and produce from around the world.
