UPDATE - Police confirm cyclist has died

A CYCLIST has been taken to John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries after coming off his bike while riding in Abingdon today.

Police are appealing for the family of the man to come forward following the incident in Drayton Road at about 4.15pm.

It is not believed that any other vehicles were involved.

Thames Valley Police has released an image of the bicycle in the hope it may be recognised by the cyclist's family or friends.

Investigating officer, Police Sergeant Chris Ruff of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The cyclist is a white man in his forties or fifties, about 5ft 8ins, of slim build with greying hair, a brown beard and blue eyes.

“He was wearing blue lycra shorts, a blue top and a grey and blue helmet.

“We are releasing a picture of his bicycle, which is a dark green Moulton with a cream coloured seat.

“We have tried to locate the man’s next of kin but have been unable to do so at this stage of the investigation, therefore we are publishing this appeal in the hope his family comes forward.

“The man is currently in the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries.

“Anyone who thinks they might know the man please call police on 101 and quote reference number 1037 (3/6).

“We also want to hear from anyone who saw the cyclist in the vicinity of Drayton Road this afternoon.”
