FORMER Oasis star Noel Gallagher, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Gary Barlow and Elvis Costello are warming up to play the country’s most sophisticated music festival.

The stars are lined up to play the Nocturne Live concert series at Blenheim Palace, in Woodstock – and it promises to be a feast of rock, pop and spangly disco.

Chic and support act Soul II Soul begin proceedings tonight, playing the 10,000-capacity Great Court of the Duke of Marlborough’s family home.

They are followed tomorrow by Gallagher, pictured, and his band High Flying Birds with support from The Coral and Neon Waltz, Costello with The Waterboys and Nick Lowe on Saturday and former Take That star Barlow, with support from Rumer on Sunday. While the Gary Barlow finale is sold out, tickets for the other concerts are still available.

Nile Rodgers and Chic are famous for such dancefloor classics as Le Freak, Good Times and Everybody Dance. Their live show features all of the band’s hits as well as songs from Rodgers’ collaborations with the likes of Madonna, David Bowie, Daft Punk and Diana Ross.

Nile said: “We are really excited to be bringing some Chic magic to Blenheim Palace this summer.”

Noel Gallagher, who has had eight UK number-one singles, will play a mix of solo material and Oasis hits.

The High Flying Birds touring band consists of former Oasis guitarist Gem Archer, former Oasis session pianist Mike Rowe, former Oasis drummer Chris Sharrock and The Zutons bassist Russell Pritchard.

Elvis Costello, right, is an icon of British pub-rock, scoring hits in the 70s and 80s with such tunes as Oliver’s Army, I Can’t Stand Up for Falling Down, Good Year for the Roses and Radio, Radio.

He also had a hit with a cover of Herbert Kretzmer and Charles Aznavour’s song She from the soundtrack to the film Notting Hill.

He said: “It’s great to find ourselves in English summertime as part of the season of concerts alongside our old acquaintance, Nile Rodgers.”

Songwriter Lowe, who had a hit with the tune I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass, produced Costello’s first five albums – including the successful My Aim Is True, This Year’s Model and Armed Forces. This concert will signal the first time the two have shared a bill since 2013.

Mike Scott’s Waterboys are best known for their hits Fisherman’s Blues, And a Bang on the Ear and The Whole of The Moon. The singer will perform music from across his varied back catalogue including a selection of Take That’s greatest hits and songs from his chart-topping solo albums.

As a songwriter and frontman of Take That, Gary Barlow, left, became a household name, his fame continuing after the band’s dissolution, with a string of solo hits.

In 2005 he once again joined band mates for the group’s reunion. One of Britain’s most successful songwriters, he has written 14 number one singles – 12 with That That and twice as a solo artist. He has written 24 top 10 hits – six as a solo star – and enjoyed success with seven number one albums with Take That and two on his own.

He has won six Ivor Novello Awards for his writing and has sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

The Cheshire-born artist has also co-written and produced music for other renowned artists including Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Elton John and former Take That band mate Robbie Williams.

His last solo record, 2013’s Since I Saw You Last sold more than 600,000 copies, reached number two in the charts on the UK and was the ninth biggest selling album that year.

When not performing, he served as head judge of The X Factor from 2011 to 2013 and Let It Shine in 2017. He has also written for the stage, composing the score for Finding Neverland, based on the life of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie, and working alongside screenwriter Tim Firth to write the music and lyrics for musical The Girls.

He also worked alongside his Take That band mates to produce The Band, a record-breaking musical featuring the band’s music.

The intimate concert in the Great Court, which was featured in the 007 film Spectre, will be a special treat for fans, with the artist generally only performing huge arena shows. His last solo tour in 2014 saw him playing to sell out crowds at the O2 London, Birmingham LG Arena and Manchester Arena, but Gary said he was looking forward to playing smaller venues.

He said: “I had such a lot of fun back in 2013 when I also played smaller venues because you’re so much closer to the fans.

“The audience always seem to love the intimacy of it all too.

“I’m also really looking forward to playing places I’ve never played before as well as getting a chance to meet the fans there.”

Ciro Romano, of Nocturne Live said: “We’re confident that the line-up for this year’s Nocturne is our strongest to date.

“In Nile Rodgers, Elvis Costello, Gary Barlow and Noel Gallagher we have four true giants of the music world, each offering something different but all undeniably world class. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the palace this week.”

Nocturne runs from today to Sunday. Tickets from nocturnelive.com
