ANOTHER set of plans has been submitted for warehousing in Sutton Courtenay.

The Diageo Pension Trust has submitted a full planning application for two warehouse buildings with a total footprint of more than 309,000sq ft.

It is the latest in a long line of plans for the land off Sutton Courtenay Lane which residents have said are completely unsuitable for the village.

Diageo and its planning agents Savills previously won permission for a single 324,00sq ft building, but earlier this year sent plans to Vale of White Horse District Council for two buildings totalling 100,000sq ft.

Now they have submitted their latest plans to the authority for storage and distribution warehouses totalling 28,747sq m, or 309,430sq ft.

In their 'design and access statement' to the council, the companies said: "This planning application seeks consent for a bespoke development on a 24.7 acres/ 10 hectares parcel in Sutton Courtenay.

To give an idea of scale, the firms said the facility would have parking spaces for a total of 69 lorries and 367 cars.

However, in a nod to villagers' concerns about lorries rumbling through the historic and narrow streets every day, the companies said in their plan the HGVs would only be allowed to exit the site southbound, heading towards the A34 Milton junction.

Addressing concerns aboutthe visual effect of building the two massive warehouses in the ancient parish, the companies said they would 'use colour and texture' to 'limit the impact'.

They added: "The position of the proposed buildings have been informed by the site context such that the bulk of the largest building has been located away from residential development to the northwest."
