CHILDREN at a special needs school in Abingdon could soon get ‘much-needed’ additional classroom space in new log cabins.

Proposals have been submitted on behalf of The Unicorn School, which teaches pupils from age six to 16 years, to build two log cabins at its Marcham Road site.

It would also make official parking space being replaced with an astro pitch, which has already been installed but is still listed as a car park.

A planning application to Vale of White Horse District Council states: “The proposal would provide much-needed additional space to the school enabling them to provide the specialist services needed to children with speech and language communications needs."

The school said the work would also 'formalise a longstanding parking arrangement' on site.

It went on to explain that the additional space would be used to provide one-to-one sessions for the school’s 85 students and was needed following a decision in 2015 to extend teaching to GCSE level.

Previously the school had only taught to age 14.

Members of public can make comment on the plans in the district council website until August 11.
