A MAN has been slapped with a £365 fine after trying to storm through an emergency road closure at the scene of a fatal crash.

Wayne Langridge, of Sycamore Road in Launton, tried to drive through the crash scene on the Blackthorn Road, Launton near Bicester, whilst paramedics bid to save the crash victim's life.

Banbury Magistrates Court heard how it happened shortly after 8am on March 22, following an earlier crash on the road after which the victim later died.

The court heard how Langridge, 54, attempted to ignore the closure and drive through while paramedics were giving CPR and when he was stopped he hurled abusive language at both police officers and paramedics at the scene.

He pleaded guilty at the hearing on Wednesday, July 11, and was slapped with a £365 fine, including court costs, plus he was disqualified from driving for three months.

Officer in the case Sergeant Mark Scully, of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing Unit, said: "Sometimes it is necessary for the police to close roads to investigate serious and fatal collisions, as well as to protect the emergency services who are working at the scene and those members of the public who are caught up in the incident.

"When drivers choose to ignore closures it puts those workers and other people at risk as well as taking their attention from what it should be concentrated on, trying to save someones life.

"This man has then chosen to abuse those emergency service workers who rightly challenged him and this should not be expected or tolerated.

"I am pleased to see the court have taken this so seriously that they have chosen to impose a period of disqualification from driving for the offence convicted, which itself is not a driving offence.

"Whilst I can understand the frustration of members of the public who are inconvenienced by road closures, I hope this demonstrates that behaviour of this type will not be tolerated."
