DAISY Johnson, a former employee at Blackwell’s Bookshop in Oxford, has been longlisted for the prestigious Man Booker Prize.

Ms Johnson worked in the shop in Broad Street until she landed a two-book publishing deal with Jonathan Cape.

Her first novel, Everything Under, has been longlisted for the famous literary prize.

In the novel the author examines the troubled relationship between a mother and her daughter.

Following the announcement of the longlist Ms Johnson tweeted: “SO: I have a small piece of news. Not even remotely THE MOST ENORMOUS THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. (Also look at the rest of this list, so so good!)”.

Ms Johnson has also written Fen, a collection of stories set in a marshland town where humans turn into animals and cannibal temptresses lure lovers to their doom.

Everything Under, published earlier this month, price £14.99, is on a longlist of 13 titles competing for the prize.

Blackwell’s staff were quick to offer their praise in a tweet, saying: “Huge congratulations to @djdaisyjohnson on being longlisted for the @ManBookerPrize. Everything Under is a favourite of ours. A truly magnificent novel that over 15 of our booksellers have read and adored.”

The longlist also includes graphic novel Sabrina by American artist Nick Drnaso, alongside more traditional entries, including Warlight by Michael Ondaatje.

The shortlist will be announced on September 20, with the winner announced on October 16.
