Driver jailed for death of cyclist

A DRINK-driver has been jailed for four years for causing the death of a cyclist.

Robert De'ath, 21, of Waddesdon, was jailed at Oxford Crown Court today after admitting causing death by dangerous driving. He was banned for driving for five years and will have to undertake an extended driving test.

The court head De'ath was two-and-a quarter times over the legal drink drive limit, and speeding, when he veered into cyclist Peter Ryczowski, 52, in Leach Road Bicester, on January 20, this year.

Mr Ryczowski was pronounced dead at the scene. A charge of driving with excess alcohol will lie on the file.

Sgt Bryan Smith of Bicester Roads Policing said: "This case highlights the disastrous consequences of drink-driving.

"We can only hope this case demonstrates why drinking and driving is unacceptable and that it will serve as a deterrent to those tempted to drive after consuming alcohol.

"This message could not be more relevant as we approach the festive period."
