Battle to save lake continues

RADLEY Parish Council said today it would carry on battle to protect Thrupp Lake from the bulldozers.

It comes despite a recent decision by power company RWE npower to put on hold plans to dump fly ash into Thrupp Lake.

The parish council has vowed to carry on with the judicial review of Oxfordshire County Council's decision not to register land around Thrupp and Bullfield Lakes as a town green.

The county council's planning and regulation committee backed a ruling by an inspector following a public inquiry.

However, campaign group Save Radley Lakes refused to give up and has launched a £40,000 appeal for funds to support the judicial review.

Did anyone notice that the chief by-product of incineration is 'fly ash'; this will (so we were told) be safely disposed of in near-by facilities or used in the manufacture of blocking and road surfacing? I had a strange sense of 'déja entendu'! A little more research shows that this represents a minimum of some 5% by volume of the burnt waste, and that it is often highly toxic. Sounds just the sort of stuff those lovely people at Oxfordshire County Council would love to see used to fill Thrupp Lake!
