Oxford United have been docked five points and fined £500 for fielding Eddie Hutchinson, an unregistered player.

The club also received a £3,500 fine, which was suspended, following a hearing at the Football Conference today.

Speaking after the hearing in Birmingham, United chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "We are disappointed with the decision.

"We have 14 days in which to appeal, but we are not taking a decision on that right now.

"We will look at all the facts and get all the paperwork together and then make a decision."

Club secretary Mick Brown, whose job it is to register players with the Blue Square Premier, did not speak after the hearing.

An internal investigation is under way.
