Baber Khan, 30, of Dashwood Road, Rose Hill, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years imprisonment and nine months, to run concurrently, and to sign the sex offenders 'register for the rest of his life, after he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault by touching.

This is in relation to two incidents, one on September 30, 2007, and on January 18, 2008.

Det Con Will Downey said; “This is an excellent sentence for a man who abused his position of trust.

“Justice has now been served for the victims and hopefully they can now move forward and begin to rebuild their lives.

“On both occasions Khan abused his position as a taxi driver and while he was taking the women home he sexually assaulted them.

“In December 2008, the case was bought to trial and the jury couldn’t reach a verdict.

“A retrial was held on May 5 and the victims bravely went through the ordeal of giving evidence and being cross-examined again.

“This is a fantastic result and all credit must be given to both victims for having the courage and tenacity to come forward and not only make the complaint but see it through to the end which would have been an extremely difficult and traumatic time.

“As a taxi driver, Khan was in a position of trust every time he went to work. Women should expect to feel safe and secure when catching a taxi, but Khan abused his role and exploited these victims’ vulnerability.

“Thanks and appreciation must also go to the witnesses who came forward and the staff at Oxfordshire County Council licensing agency. I would also like to thank Royal Cars for their assistance, which contributed towards today’s verdict. They are as keen as we are that their drivers are reliable and trustworthy.”
