Dog bite victim recovers at home

A man who was bitten by a dog has returned home after undergoing surgery to his hand and thumb.

Brian Donnelly, 65, from Greater Leys, was walking his dog near woods off Grenoble Road when he was attacked by two dogs. Either a Staffordshire bull terrier or a pit bull terrier bit him on the hand.

The incident happened on Monday at 7pm.

Mr Donnelly was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he remained until Thursday afternoon.

Wife Sue said: “He has been interviewed by the police and now he just wants to forget it. It’s knocked his confidence.”

Police said no one had been arrested in connection with the attack on Mr Donnelly, which happened just over 24 hours after an unrelated incident where a women was bitten on the hip by a Rottweiler in Primrose Place, Greater Leys.

Shop assistant Wendy Parker, 56, of Verbena Way, also required hospital treatment.

The dog believed to have attacked her was seized by police on Wednesday.

Neighbourhood sergeant Rob Axe said: “An appointment has been made to speak to the owner of the dog who will be assisting us with our inquiries.”
