Supporters greet Heythrop Hunt

HUNT supporters came out in force for traditional Boxing Day meets in the county.

One of the largest turn-outs was at Chipping Norton, where thousands of people came to watch the gathering of the Heythrop Hunt, outside The Fox Hotel, in Market Square.

Between 80 to 100 people rode out, dressed in their traditional hunting gear.

Hunt secretary, Guy Avis, said the ice had put a few people off this year.

He said: “We didn’t have as many people on horses as we have done in the past, because the ground was still icy. But there were a lot of people out on the streets watching. We seem to get more and more people each year.”

Since the ban on hunting with dogs in 2005, most hunts formed hound clubs and continued under the new legislation. Instead of hunting foxes to kill, hound clubs follow artificial trails.

If David Cameron gets his way, they will all be killing again soon.

There is no case for repeal. Hunt numbers are up all over the country. Drag hunting is legal. The sense of community, pageantry, heritage, and jobs are all still intact and yet these disgraceful people can’t manage to enjoy themselves unless they are terrifying and killing animals.

Please if you support the hunting act, get your name on the R.O.A.R. (Register Online Against Repeal), an ‘all party’ list at: http://www.campaignf

Mr Cameron may have got my vote, but not a chance now. Animals have no voice so we should do it for them.

Cameron's barking up the wrong tree here – the hunts still go on, keeping the tradition alive – a great british tradition but killing the innocent fox seems nowadays to be passe.

I'm all for keeping our traditions alive and this should be the emphasis;the fox hasn't been made extinct by fox hunting but surely there's a better way to end the hunt on a killing.
