Cash stolen in Witney shop raid

Police today appealed for witnesses after a shop was burgled in Witney.

Burglars forced their way into the shop on Burwell Drive, through the rear fire exit door and stole a safe containing a quantity of cash from the back room.

They triggered the alarm when they left the building.

Det Con Mick Jenks, of Witney CID, said: “The alarm was activated at around 2.40am on Saturday night and I am sure many people would have heard it. I am appealing for any witnesses who saw what happened or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at that time to get in touch.

“I’d also like to ask local residents and businesses to be vigilant – please make sure that your security measures are up-to-date. Consider installing CCTV for your business as it will help with any police investigations.”

Police have not identified the shop that was burgled.

If you have any information regarding the incident, please call 0845 8 505 505, the 24-hour Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. If you don’t want to speak to police or give your name, please call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Can we try to get things correct for once. Was it 2:40 Saturday morning or 2:40 Saturday night? Which would make it Sunday morning.

Read up a paragraph and it says 2.40am on Saturday. Seems pretty clear to me.

Well the dear old OM have changed this story since I commented. The second paragraph originally said that it occured at 2.40am on Saturday which quite clearly means Saturday morning, although the detective's quote makes it sound like Sunday morning. One of these days, the OM may PROPERLY proof read their stories instead of the readers doing it for them. I still chuckle thinking about their pathetically titled headline about a helicopter being in Tesco's car park when the more important part of the story was WHY the helicopter was in the car park.

I notice also that since I put on my original comment a certain part has been removed from this story.

I never buy the paper and I pay nothing for this website, so the mistakes are just a laugh. How does the OM make money here? There aren't many adverts. Maybe the journalist work for nothing as fair reward for their talents.

How can they expect public help when they don't even say which shop it is? There are several shops around the Burwell area.

And why leave it several days to ask . . I for one wouldn't remember something only slightly out of place happening several days on, as opposed to only the next day, say.
