A die-hard Oxford United fan has recorded a version of the U’s Milk Cup anthem Yellow Ribbon in the hope it will bring his beloved team another Wembley victory.

Alex Ivanovich, who records under the alias U-Man, cut a rap version of the historic song with the chorus sung by regulars from the Six Bells pub in Kidlington last weekend.

Now the 34-year-old is hopeful his song will become another favourite of U’s fans and help raise cash for the team’s 12th Man fund.

Mr Ivanovich, originally from Wolvercote, has been given a huge boost by the news that the song will be played over the PA system at Wembley half an hour before the 5pm kick-off.

Meanwhile, the club will play the CD single on every one of the official fans’ coaches leaving the Kassam Stadium for Wembley on Sunday.

The saxophonist, who moved from Yarnton to Bristol 10 years ago, said: “It’s been a mad season but Chris Wilder has done a brilliant job and made us proud of the team again.

“I wanted the song to be fun and upbeat to get people in a carnival mood.

“I will be ecstatic to hear the song at Wembley before the game and hopefully it we be played after the match if we win and the fans will be singing it triumphantly.”

So far the song, which features references to Grenoble Road, Didcot and Banbury, has received 3,200 hits on YouTube.

However, Mr Ivanovich is hoping fans will visit his official site and download the song in return for a £1 donation to the 12th Man fund.

The fund has so far raised £26,460 and helped to finance the purchase of three new players.

Club spokesman Chris Williams said: “It’s great that the fans have gone to the effort to record this and it shows how they have backed us this season.

“Yellow Ribbon is what fans were singing in 1986 when we were last at Wembley and it was a good omen. Let us hope it will be again tomorrow.”
