“THE best ever” was the reaction of one Witney school as it recorded record high GCSE passes.

On Tuesday’s results day, 99 per cent of pupils left Wood Green School, in Woodstock Road, with five or more A* to G grades, while 21 young people gained ten or more A*s and As.

Headteacher Cynthia Savage said: “We are delighted with this year’s outstanding GCSE results, which are our best ever at all levels.”

Nick Jones, of Witney, achieved nine A* grades and four As.

He will stay on at the sixth form to study the three sciences and further maths.

The 16-year-old said: “I got two A*s in English, and that was insane, as I wasn’t expecting that.”

Charlie Harrison, 16, of North Leigh, who plans to study medicine, was delighted with her eight A*s and three As.

She said: “I am really pleased and relieved.”

Murray Cox, of Witney, gained six A*s, three As and one B.

He will stay at the sixth form to study biology, chemistry and maths, and French at Henry Box School.

The 16-year-old said: “I did my best in the exams and did revision so I wasn’t too nervous. I am really pleased.”

Alice Merriman, 16, of Witney, got four A*s and five As.

She said: “I am really happy about my drama and art as I worked really hard.”

Harriet Boland, 16, of Witney, gained five A*s, four As and two Bs.

She will study English literature, history, drama and psychology at the sixth form. Harriet said: “I feel absolutely amazing, the hard work has paid off.”

Yasmeen Mahmoud, 16, of Witney, picked up three A*s, five As and one B. She has only been in the British education system for 18 months, after being schooled in Egypt for five years.

Mother Stephanie Morgan said: “I think she has done really well, and I am really proud of her.”

In Henry Box School, in Church Green, Witney, 96 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to G grades.

Headteacher Nicola Edmondson said: “We are delighted with the results, and I would like to pay tribute to the real hard work and dedication of students and staff.”

Georgina Horne, 16, of Witney, gained nine A*s and six As.

She said: “I am really really pleased, I am completely overwhelmed but very happy.”

Daniel Adams, 16, of Witney, got nine A*s, three As and one B.

He said: “I am very happy and pleased with myself.”

Mother Elena Adams was there to hear the good news.

She said: “I am very proud of him.”

Christie Anderson, 16, of Witney, scored A*s in all 12 GCSEs.

She said: “It’s amazing, I really didn’t expect it.”

Richard Musgrave, 16, of Witney, gained three A*s and eight As.

He said: “I am really happy and it shows that all the hard work pays off.”

At Carterton Community College, 98 per cent of pupils achieved at least five A* to G grades.

Those that did particularly well were Megan Wright, who got nine As, Ellis Linford-Pill, six A*s and four As, and Lucy Cleden-Radford, with two A*s and eight As.

Headteacher Niall McWilliams said: “I am delighted with these results.”

In Chipping Norton School, 79 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C passes.

Headteacher Simon Duffy said: “These are truly magnificent results that cement our reputation as an outstanding school in this part of the Cotswolds.”

All 87 candidates at Cokethorpe School, in Witney Road, Ducklington, gained five or more A* to C grades. At Bartholomew School, Eynsham, 98 per cent gained five plus A* to G passes.

Headteacher Andrew Hamilton said: “We are delighted with the excellent examination results our students have achieved, ranking within Bartholomew’s best ever results.” A total of 97 per cent achieved five or more A* to Gs at The Marlborough School, in Woodstock.

Headteacher Julie Fenn said: “We have achieved some excellent GCSE results and are pleased that the hard work and dedication of our pupils and their teachers has been rewarded.”
