A TEAM of cricketers faced an agonising hour and a half of having their most delicate areas waxed for charity.

Dubbed the ‘Boyzilla’ the procedure left the six men hair-free all over.

The Chadlington Cricket Club, which is playing in the final of the Telegraph Cup Oxfordshire Cricket Association League tomorrow, raised £1,195 for the Katherine House Hospice which cared for their close friend, Mike Willis.

Mr Willis, landlord of the teams’ local, the Tite Inn in Chadlington, near Chipping Norton, died on July 29 after a three-year battle with prostate cancer. Players James Kelly, Mark Lambert, Sam Bunney, Tom Cleevely, Richard Ingram and Freddie Magee braved the wax in aid of the hospice, near Banbury.

Club captain Mr Lambert said: “I can safely say the waxing was an interesting experience and not for the faint-hearted, although I could not fault the girls from Nicetouch Beauty.

“All in all, we have had a brilliant time raising £1,195 for Katharine House Hospice, and it’s thanks to them our friend Mike spent his last few days in a comfortable, tranquil environment dedicated to his 24-hour care.”

The waxing took place at the salon in Chipping Norton and took, on average, an hour to an hour-and-a-half for each man.

Laura Ludlow, owner of Nicetouch, said: “They were all very brave, a little shell-shocked, but they all completed their challenge.

“I originally said we would do it for them if they could raise £500 and they have smashed their target, which is great. It has also been interesting from the point of view that a lot of people didn’t know that we do male waxing.”

With wife Susan, Mr Willis ran the pub for more than 20 years and won Camra North Oxfordshire Pub of the Year in 2005.
