TOP bands will take centre stage at Witney’s newest music festival to raise money for a town primary school.

Battstock will be held in the grounds of the Batt Primary School, in Marlborough Lane, on Saturday, September 11.

Bands already lined up to play include Danny and the Champions of the World, The Epstein, Les Clochards and Quadrophobe.

The event is the brainchild of online music promoter Adrian Phillips, of TunA the Day, and Graeme Merifield, who runs the Wychwood Festival. Both have children at the school.

Mr Merifield said: “Battstock is essentially a mini one-day music festival.

“Many of the ingredients you would find at a larger event like Wychwood will be there to entertain the families of Witney.

“There will be live music, workshops, therapists, a bouncy castle, a fire engine, real ale from Wychwood Brewery, who are sponsoring the event, and food served up by our friends from Charlbury’s Riverside Festival.

“We think it’s going to be a very special day, which we hope will become an annual event.”

Mr Phillips added: “Some of the best live acts around including Danny and the Champions of The World, who are just about to tour with the Magic Numbers, and The Epstein are lined up to play, along with Oxfordshire bands Les Clochards and Quadrophobe.”

Profits will go to the primary school.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for under-16s. They are available from Rapture Records in Witney, at the school office, by calling 08452 574938 or online at wegottickets.com/event/86482
