Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Oxford today.

Officers were called to the Abingdon Road, shortly after 6.30am, after reports that two men were involved in an altercation.

When officers arrived at the scene they discovered a 20-year-old man who had suffered an injury to his leg caused by an unknown weapon. The man was subsequently taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment to his injuries, where he remains at this time.

An 18-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Det Sgt Steve Raffield said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was travelling along the Abingdon Road around the time the incident happened, who may have seen what happened.

“I would also like to reassure the local community that this is being treated as an isolated incident.”
