DISABLED Oxford residents are heading to London today to take part in protest march against Government plans to cut benefits.

Paul Scarrott, 40, and his wife Jackie, 41, who both have learning disabilities, are among a dozen users of Park End Street charity My Life My Choice travelling to the capital for the Hardest Hit March.

Mr Scarrott, from Blackbird Leys, said: “Jackie and I both rely on support allowances to live, but we both do lots of voluntary work and try to earn some money when we can. We like to help other and contribute to society but the Government just seems to think that we’re scroungers, but we’re not.

“We don’t have much to live on, we just get by, but the Government is now going to take money away from us.”

The march, expected to attract at least 8,000 disabled people from all over the country, will be followed by a lobby of Members of Parliament at the House of Commons.

The march has been organised by the UK Disabled People’s Council and the Disability Benefits Consortium, representing more than 40 disability charities and other organisations.
