PRIME MINISTER David Cameron must have felt in familiar territory as he teamed up with George Osborne to take on the red team.

But rather than a battle of wits in the Commons with the Chancellor at his shoulder, the match-up took place on a table football pitch in a newly opened £1m community hall. And George is nine.

Mr Cameron opened volunteer-run Glyme Hall, in Chipping Norton, and described it as a “great example of the big society in action”.

George, who attends Holy Trinity Catholic School, revealed yesterday the table football match had gone well, with him and Mr Cameron beating the red team.

He added: “It was quite amazing because I did not expect I would ever meet David Cameron. I suppose I could say it was a joy.

“The hall is really big and it has loads to do. I would recommend it to anybody.”

The facility includes a large social room, large activities room, kitchen, adult education office and classroom, two meeting rooms and a garden.

It will house the town’s volunteer-run youth centre and includes table tennis, pool, Xbox, table football and other games to entertain the youngsters.

Chipping Norton has not had a youth centre since before the last summer holidays.

The project was funded with an £800,000 Government grant and £200,000 from cash set aside for the benefit of the town from the sale of the Parker Knoll factory.

But the project almost fell through in 2010, after cash-strapped Oxfordshire County Council baulked at funding the youth centre’s running costs.

The council attempted to send back the Government cash but the community petitioned County Hall to be able to run it themselves.

Led by Hilary Biles, county council member for Chipping Norton, the group set up the management committee, which has now applied for charity status.

The county council has helped with a £28,000 grant for the first year, but after that the committee will need to generate revenue on its own.

The committee plans to rent out the hall for theatre productions, conferences, exercise groups and parties to finance the youth centre and hall running costs.

Mrs Biles said: “It is going to be no small feat.

“It has already been a terrific amount of hard work and very time consuming but we will get there.

“We are determined it will be a success.

“Every town needs somewhere for the young people to meet but we tried to provide a facility for every possible wish. I want it to be used fully by the community.

She added: “This is a shining example of a community coming together for the good of the town. It is very much the Big Society.”

Mrs Biles said she was “very proud” to have seen the hall complete and being opened by the Prime Minister.

Mr Cameron said: “I was delighted to be invited to open the new Glyme Hall in Chipping Norton.

“It is a great example of the Big Society in action, where the local community stepped in to follow through a worthy project which was important to them.

“I congratulate everyone involved who worked so hard to make this happen and I wish Glyme Hall a happy and successful future.”

I suggest that he team up with the other George Osborne and change the content of Regulation 3 of the Social Security Benefit Up-rating Regulations 2011 to remove the freezing of just 4% of pensioners pensions. We all paid into the NI fund and now this minority are continually deprived of any increases by these Honourable MP's. Yes your faces should be red and the word honourable is totally out of place all the while you discriminate against them just because they chose to retire to certain countries which are mainly in the Commonwealth who you would have thought would be treated as family. Can you believe that they even freeze those in the Falkland Islands ? A change of policy before the budget would see things despicable treatment at an end. Maybe the Witney Gazette would like to run an article about this to show the electorate just how compassionate and worthy this government and the Prime Minister in particular is towards the pensioners who they profess to treat with fairness. They hide behind gobbledogook and half truths to continue to penalise these few pensioners and have had to admit that previous statements regarding this issue were false. They can give aid to India and Pakistan but not support their own people in retirement. What does that say for democracy ? Steve Webb the Pensions Minister said "The Poverty and Justice Bible is a timely reminder of God's priorities. This Bible highlights the fact that God is concerned about all aspects of our lives, and that ‘true religion' must involve action to address the gross injustices that still scar our world and our nation."
So how about dealing with this injustice ?
David, George, Steve are yours ears burning ?

Yes indeed Morgeo. If Webb is half the God fearing man he is reputed to be, I wonder how his conscience lets him sleep at night. One of the excuses given from the very beginning, as to why our pensions were not indexed, is that there was no agreement between the UK and "Frozen" nations. Well, the present government should be made aware that Canada at least, uprates the state pension of it's citizens resident in the UK so why can't the UK government follow suit. So David, George and Steve, no need to call the fire brigade, just do the honourable thing. Uprate ALL frozen pensions.

Well now, morgeo, that's a whole new can of worms. As soon as you mention religion another word springs to mind, hypocrisy. David Cameron claims to be a christian but, although he has it in his power, he refuses to stop the immoral discrimination of 4% of UK state pensioners who are denied their rights. It is inexcusable that the rest,96%, get their annual increases wherever they live around the globe but the few are ignored as they struggle to live on pensions of £2 to £3,000 a year. As the years go by of course they are worth even less. This grubby secret is carried forward by whoever is in power and ministers have got away with this violation of the Human Rights Act. This is DISCRIMINATION and apart from anything else it is a shameful way to treat British seniors who have worked hard and paid taxes and their NI contributions under the same terms and conditions as everyone else for a state pension expecting to be paid under the same terms and conditions as everyone else. To discriminate against race, gender or religion would cause uproar. But it would seem that to subject the most vulnerable in our society to this disgraceful treatment is not worthy of condemnation by our so called christian church leaders who recently felt compelled to scupper the capping of the vast amounts paid out to those families who do not work but continue to produce children to be supported by the taxpayer. Yes hypocrisy is alive and well in the corridors of Westminster and the churches of this once great country.

I would like to thank those who added a comment in support of mine. Maybe the lady wives of these honourable gentlemen would have a word in their ear about acting with honesty and integrity. Have a word with the other wives Samantha as the men are making themselves look foolish when they deprive pensioners and yet insist on India accepting aid it does'nt want.
The bribe did'nt work but the pensioners did throughout their lives and deserve better.
