Man suffering hypothermia rescued from canal

A MAN losing consciousness was rescued from the Oxford Canal by firefighters last night.

The man was suffering from hypothermia when crews arrived at the scene at Nell Bridge, between Adderbury and Aynho, at 7.30pm.

Firefighters believe he had gone into the water after a woman but then got into difficulties himself.

The woman managed to get out and called emergency services.

Firefighters wearing dry suits and life jackets saved the man using their rescue boat from Kidlington.

They then took him a quarter of a mile to a waiting ambulance where paramedics treated him for hypothermia and took him to hospital.

His condition is not known.
