Suspended prison term for fraudster

A 35-year-old man has been given a suspended sentence for almost £10,000 of benefit fraud.

David Kanza, of Gloucester Green, Oxford, admitted failing to declare his employment for the purpose of obtaining housing benefit, council tax benefit, income support and jobseeker’s allowance between November 2007 and February 2010.

He stole a total of £9,936.64 and was sentenced by Oxford magistrates on Friday.

He was given a six-week prison setence, suspended for 12 months, and told to do 180 hours’ unpaid work.

He must also pay back the money.

I blame the council. Did they not cross check with his NI number during the three years that he was claiming to see that he was working or not. There are thousands of housing benefit cheats, but Oxford City Council do not want to catch them because if they become homeless as a result then they will have to house them. The council want more people renting privately on housing benefit as it helps keep people off the housing waiting list, and keeps them from admitting the real housing problem that we have in Oxford. £1,200 PCM for an Ex-council mid terrace house in Blackbird Leys, make your own minds up, but if you were forced to pay that, wouldn't you want housing benefit as well. No more council houses because they all got sold and rented out.

So noone lives in them then? Council houses were fine in the 50's and 60's but they served their purpose . Public housing is not now always the solution. It is frequently the problem. Why is housing in so much demand in Oxford, a low wage area? Of course we have to tiptoe round the subject but I suspect I understand why 20% of an 80% turn-out voted for Marine Le Pen yesterday, don't you LPMV?

No that's not true there are still council houses being lived in because people can't afford private rent or to get a mortgage. Housing is so much in demand because it's a small city with a high transient population. When the housing market collapses because it becomes evident that people can't afford the mortgages then more council houses will be needed.

Very true just look at Ryder Close up from me to see how many "locals" were given houses there, and how many from outside the area were. P.S. Outside the area could mean 2,000 miles outside the area.

Lots of social housing in Yarnton but Cherwell council have been giving out to some very strange cases. Single mums in three bedroom houses and people who already own a home now with a nice four bedroomed house set at 40% of the market rent.
