The A40 / Barnard Gate road needs traffic lights - the sort that only works when a car is waiting in the side road, so the A40 would be green most of the time. That would have the added benefit that buses could stop at Barnard Gate.

Obviously I don't know what caused this v sad crash.

Something really needs to be done about this stretch of road, it's ridiculous that there are so many crashes and nothing is done about it.

My heart goes out to the family of the man tragically killed.

The level of traffic on the A40 has increased enormously in the last few years. Where it is single carriageway you sometimes have to wait for ages for their to be a gap big enough to allow you to cross. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents and I do agree that light controlled crossings are necessary in various places - the road where the Boot Inn is located is another nightmare intersection.

I agree that something needs to be done on this "stretch" of road. I don't think that traffic lights are the answer however. I think the whole stretch needs to widened purely as the huge amount of traffic that uses this road. For all your information this terrible collision was not at the junction that everybody seems to be assuming it was at. it was further up towards Witney before the dual carriage way. I would like to send my thoughts to the friends and family of all the people that were in anyway involved in this. That includes the emergency services that were there to pick up the pieces.

I can't believe another life taken on this stretch of road....
With the amount of traffic it should be dual carriage way to Oxford!! Something needs to be done. How many more people need to suffer before something is done!!!

Blame the Greenies. This and many other roads were going to be dual carraigeways with work starting in the late 90s, but the new Labour government listened to the Greenies and anti-car brigade and cancelled the lot of them. Maybe the Tories will carry out the policy of Majors government now that they have poewr, but the only way is to Lobby Davey Boy himself as I think that this may have happened in his constituency.
