Brookes' student demo continues

PROTESTERS camping out at Oxford Brookes University have entered their second week of occupation.

The group, calling themselves Occupy Brookes, set up at the university’s Gipsy Lane Campus in Headington on Wednesday, April 18.

They are protesting against tuition fee increases and want the university to abolish fee waivers in favour of increased bursaries.

There are now 10 tents on site, and protesters have organised communal meals, lectures and workshops.

English and anthropology student Ivana Popov, 21, said: “We are still waiting for a reply from the vice-chancellor, Janet Beer, to a letter we have sent.”

The university has said it believes its student funding support arrangements are fair and balanced and were decided following consultation with students.

Hope they're all enjoying the rain, 10 tents on site, how many students at Brookes, 3500?

Now, now Dilly. That's not nice and you know it. I thought you had turned over a new leaf by being a little thoughtful before posting. More effort needed 'my friend'.

At 21 Miss Popov is presumably in her final year. She might be wiser to get on with swotting for Finals. Or isn't that necessary these days? It was 43 years ago when I was 21 and Finals were in June

This occupation camp is perfect. All the idiots have removed themselves so real students can get on without distraction.

Oh dear my Lord, time must have withered your brain.

Not everyone starts Uni at 18 and low and behold she may just be a tad cleverer than your good self with no need to revise as much as someone like you may have to.

You may even get to the library yourself now.

Correct bobby lad, not these layabouts that want me to pay for their education. The real students that want to make the most of their lives go to Oxford University, not play at being students at the poly. NUFF SAID. (all respects to the late great Bernard Trink RIP)

P.S. Dr Robert, what does it feel like to be the voice of reason above all of those dissenters that think you are wrong all of the time. Maybe it is the right climate to stand as an MP then leader of the tories, and onto being the proud occupier of No 10. you won't get my vote, but I am sure that L.P. will vote for you.

There are many voices of reason on these comments pages who often get howled down by those who struggle to understand how the world around them works.

Your comments about a charity and rape being a perfect example.

Dr Robert, how I bow down to your superior intellect, but not your bigotry and prejudice.
