Sex attack in Cowley
12:59pm Sunday 29th April 2012 in News
A TEENAGER was grabbed by a sex attacker after getting off a bus in Cowley.
She fought off the attacker, who had a knife, before managing to run to safety.
Her top was ripped during the attack, which happened about 6.30pm on Friday.
Police said the teenager got off the bus in Iffley Road and was walking along Campbell Road, near the junction with Cornwallis Road, when she was grabbed by the man.
The victim fought back and managed to free herself and run off.
She raised the alarm when she got to safety and called the police.
The man was white, about 6ft 2ins, and of a muscular build. He was wearing a black woolly hat, a black scarf, a black zip-up jacket, black jeans and black gardening-style gloves.
Det Sgt Matt Jarman, of Oxford CID, said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the victim but she showed great bravery in fighting off this man.
"We are conducting a full investigation and are carrying out targeted patrols of the area.
"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, or who saw a man matching the description in the local area, to come forward.
"It was still light at the time of the offence and the area would have been busy, so I believe someone will have seen this man and could hold vital information for our inquiry."
Police said the attacker had a folding knife in his possession during the assault.
