St Edward’s School, Oxford, enjoyed success in the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham.

The school’s J 15 coxed four of Freddie Bickers, Sam Gillingham, Albert Mitchell, Sam Hamilton-Peach and cox Meg Neville, representing the Upper Thames region,won their class by a remarkable 16 seconds in the morning.

Later races had to be cancelled at midday when a harsh tailwind caused wave rollers over the closing stages of the course.

A further contingent of Teddies Under 15s and 14s crews competed in the Birmingham Regatta.

Three sets of silver medals were won by the under 15s, while the under 14s collected a gold and two silvers.

l A large number of crews were saving their efforts for Wallingford Regatta which will be held at the Dorney Lake Olympics venue on Sunday.

The 2000-metre six-lane course will be in action for nearly 12 hours with 117 races being staged.

The largest local entry of 12 boats has been registered by Headington, followed by Wallingford with eight, and Radley College and Oxford Brookes with six apiece.

Of the five Oxford colleges in the line-ups, Oriel have the largest contingent with five crews.
