Food turns to fat fast, says study

People can put on weight within three hours of eating fatty foods, say Oxford University experts.

Research into how quickly food turns into body fat puts cooked breakfasts among the worst culprits.

Scientists Fredrik Karpe and Keith Frayn found fatty tissue around the waist is used only for short-term storage for exercising. But if people eat to excess, the fat moves to the hips, buttocks and thighs and builds up over the long term.
