A 55-YEAR-old woman found dead at the Prospect Park caravan site in Horspath this morning was stabbed, detectives believe.
A post mortem examination later today is expected to confirm the cause of death.
A murder investigation was launched after police were called to a static caravan on the site at 2am.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
He and the victim were known to each other but were not related, a police spokesman said.
Officers said they believed it was not a random attack.
Supt Rob Povey, local area commander for South and the Vale, said: “Incidents like this are extremely rare in Horspath and I would like to reassure residents that we believe this is an isolated incident.
“Local officers are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns should approach them to discuss any issues they have.”
