Postcards deliver home security advice

NORTH Oxfordshire residents will soon be getting postcards through their doors, but not from exotic places.

Instead they will be from Thames Valley Police who have launched a summer burglary campaign in the Cherwell district.

Each of the postcards gives households advice on how to make their homes more secure, including warnings about not leaving windows open and cars unlocked.

Det Sgt Steve Birchall said: “Burglars don’t generally target particular addresses, it’s opportunist in many cases.”

He advised people to keep hedges trimmed so burglars do not have a place to hide, and make friends with neighbours to look out for each other.

A total of 5,000 postcards will be put through doors of homes across the area.

Hopefully the postcards won't be left hanging half-out of the letter box for days on end when the residents are off on holiday.
