CHILDREN from Kirtlington Primary School dressed as morris men and maids, right, and joined in the fun when dozens of morris dancers descended on theirvillage.

Morris dancers from across the county and a team from Canada took part in the annual Kirtlington Lamb Ale Festival at the weekend.

The Lamb Ale Festival kicked off on Friday night with folk music and singing at the nearby Rock of Gibraltar pub.

Saturday saw hosts Kirtlington Morris, along with two other groups, dance at sites around the village, and tour Blenheim Palace and Woodstock.

On Sunday about 16 teams paraded to the church for a special Lamb Ale service, before returning to the school for more dancing.

Morris dancing is the only 'English' folk tradition I know. Pity more people don't support the dance and shame on those who mock.

The morris men were in Gloucester Green a couple of Saturdays ago. Long may the tradition continue. And to those who mock, would you fancy a whack round the head with one of their sticks?

The team from Canada were Island Thyme, a women's side from Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island. We were part of the Saturday dance out as well, and had a fabulous weekend! Thank you to all the good folk of Kirtlington and the other Morris sides who made us so welcome!
