Commuter link inquiry reopens

OXON: The public inquiry into a multi-million pound Rail link between Oxford and London Marylebone will resume today.

The inquiry into Chiltern Railways’ £130m Evergreen 3 scheme, which initially ran between January 2010 and January 2011, resumes at 10am at the Kassam Stadium, in Grenoble Road.

The reconvened inquiry will consider conservation issues, including measures to protect Port Meadow and the Trap Grounds nature reserve, together with possible planning conditions to mitigate noise problems.

The inquiry, which sits this week but not next, is due to finish on June 13.

If this route doesn't open, then Port Meadow and the Trap grounds may as well be bull-dozed, tarmac'd and converted to car parks to accommodate the equivalent of 400-600 passengers an hour that could be carried on the trains.

"The Trap" grounds are almost a private facility anyway...

We need the rail link.

What is the import of the phrase 'The trap is mostly private anyway'?
Do private and public places get treated differently when it comes to enviromental criteria?
