RESIDENTS interested in the future of the Corn Exchange in Witney will be able to use social media to get live updates.

Witney Town Council has set up Facebook and Twitter pages to keep the closed public hall’s former users in the loop about reopening plans.

And they have been researching the building’s history to create a timeline on Facebook – a history of the building from its opening in 1863.

The council closed the hall in November after a report showed it had major problems with fire escapes, stonework and the heating and electrical systems. Council communications officer Polly Inness said the aim was to reach a wider audience.

She said: “I am going to be tweeting updates about the Corn Exchange as well as little gems of history. We are hoping people who have memorabilia might want to share it with us to contribute to the timeline.”
