Artist stages first solo exhibition in her home city
12:10pm Wednesday 27th June 2012 in News
Jenny Saville
OXFORD artist Jenny Saville has opened her first solo UK exhibition in her home city.
The exhibition will run at Modern Art Oxford, Pembroke Street, and the Ashmolean, Beaumont Street, until September 16.
It features Red Stare Head I, used on the cover of the Journal for Plague Lovers LP by rock band Manic Street Preachers.
The artist – whose work also adorned the group’s Holy Bible album – said: “It feels very special to have a show in the city I’ve had a lifelong connection with.
“I’ve worked in London too, but because I have a young family, life in Oxford is much better for them.”
The Ashmolean features two large-scale drawings on motherhood inspired by work by Leonardo da Vinci.
