NINE private gardens in Letcombe Regis will open to the public at the weekend.

The village near Wantage is raising funds for St Andrew’s Church and entry is £5 for adults and free for accompanied children.

The event runs from 2pm until 6pm on Sunday and organisers will be hoping the forecast showers hold off.

On Saturday, eight gardens in Swerford, near Chipping Norton, opened for charity, including Grade II-listed Swerford Park, where eight-year-old Holly Evans, pictured, enjoyed the surroundings.

Her mum Penny, who was involved with selling tickets, said: “It’s been a big success.

“It’s a one-off event for charity — I think the last time we did it was six years ago — and we have been very busy.”

The event raised funds for Katharine House hospice at Adderbury, Banbury and District Samaritans and the Swerford Village Charity.
