WHEN geography teacher Paul Wavell put a price of £1,000 on his beard his pupils were only too keen to rise to the challenge.
The deputy headteacher of Christ Church Cathedral School had his facial hair removed last week, with the money shared between Oxford’s Helen & Douglas House hospice and MacMillan Cancer Support.
Mr Wavell has not been clean shaven since 1976. He said: “It’s a bit tender and sensitive at the moment, but it’s fine.
“Many of the children have been doing a double take and looking at me with astonishment.
“I haven’t decided whether to grow it back or not. Some people say it has taken 10 years off me but I don’t know if that’s true or not.”
