Fly to the Past show cancelled

THIS year's Fly to the Past show has been cancelled, organisers announced this morning.

The show was due to take place at Oxford Airport in Kidlington on Sunday, September 2.

A statement from the show’s producer Francis Rockliff released this morning said: “Regrettably, despite four popular productions to over 50,000 spectators, Fly To The Past is unable to produce a stand-alone event this year and has to be postponed.

“A combination of unfavourable economic and climatic conditions has made prospective ticket buying slower and later than any year in our history.

“Ticket sales are simply too slow to risk going forward if we are to responsibly meet our production costs. It seems that the competition from the Olympics and Jubilee has diluted the leisure time and budgets of the public with many events across the UK having to cancel their shows without offering an alternative.

“Lastly, we really do appreciate that our aviation enthusiasts will be disappointed and assure you that every endeavour was made to avoid postponing the event.”

Any tickets bought through Newsquest websites will be refunded by cheque shortly.

The Jubilee and Olympics are getting the blame for a lot this year.
With the difficulty many have reported in getting tickets for the two big events, it seems surprising that they have diluted the public's leisure time and budget.

Looking at Facebook updates, I seem to be the only one NOT attending an Olympics event!

I haven't attended one either, don't even watch much on TV but I wish all those who are interested good luck and hope they get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction.
It isn't going to last long so I don't begrudge anyone getting fun out of it all.
