Roads to close for the fun of the fair

PLANS are being put in place for this year’s Thame September Fair.

The funfair will be held in the centre of the town between Thursday, September 20, and Saturday, September 22.

It will include rides, refreshments and stalls.

Temporary road closures will be in force to stop vehicles going into the centre of the town from 4pm on Wednesday, September 19, until midday on Sunday, September 23.

Barriers will be put up in High Street at the junction with Bell Lane, North Street at the junction with Wellington Street, Upper High Street at the junction with East Street, Rooks Lane at the Upper High Street junction and Nelson Street at the Upper High Street junction.

Vehicles will not be able to park in the road or on pavements of the roads affected, and cars parked there are likely to be removed.

More loss of business for traders and disruption for the few shoppers left that come to Thame, about time this fair that generally brings nothing but trouble was moved to an outer location!

I think you'll find the fair has been going in that exact place for many years probably longer than most the businesses have been there.

Its not a simple as just moving it. and also it probably increases trade for businesses since it attracts alot of people to area not to mention the guys who own & run the fair !

I know the history only too well but it is now 2012 not 1912 and things need to move on, a lot of business's actually close down and board up for the duration and the only business's to thrive are in fact pubs!

I have lived in thame for 30years i think it is good for the town and the only businesses that normally close is a local chinese called the sun sun and a few shops next to it people should stop moaning about these events that happen every year and attract the 1000's to it.ok it is abit of disruption to people who live in thame but hey its only for 3 days of the year
