Fans line up to meet opera star

OPERA superstar Alfie Boe had fans singing his praises when he turned up to sign copies of his new autobiography in Oxford.

About 200 fans of the English tenor queued up at Waterstones in Cornmarket Street to pick up copies of his new book Alfie: My Story.

“Alfie was charming with his fans and he completely charmed staff at the book shop too,” said events manager Charlies Hayes, following the Wednesday afternoon signing.

“About 200 people turned up and some of them were queueing out the door from 2pm.

“Alfie’s popularity has really taken off since he was in Les Misérables. He also sang at the Jubilee concert.”

First in line for a signed copy was Emily East, 20, from Kidlington.

Ms East, who is starting a course at the Oxford Academy of Performing Arts in Kidlington, said: “I went with a friend to see Les Misérables last year and we met Alfie after the show.

“I’ve been a fan ever since – I would love to work in musical theatre.

“I started queueing up at about 2pm and it was well worth the wait — Alfie was lovely.” Picture: OX54113 Denis Kennedy
