Future of shopping centre unclear

PLANS for a multi-million pound redevelopment next to Botley’s West Way Shopping Centre have still not surfaced, 18 months after the two-acre site was put up for sale.

Vale of White Horse District Council put the site – including the Elms Court building, Botley Library, Seacourt Hall and Botley Baptist Church – up for sale last February.

And redevelopment is likely to see some of the buildings demolished and a large retailer take centre stage.

Community facilities will be rebuilt and the council will use cash from the sale to revamp the West Way precinct.

Eric Batts, district council member for North Hinksey and Wytham, said plans were likely to surface late this year or early in 2013. He said: “There have been difficulties but things are progressing and I imagine that before Christmas the situation will become more clear.”
