Skips to help residents get rid of rubbish
9:30am Monday 10th September 2012 in News
SIX skips will be dropped in Barton today to help residents clear up their community.
Oxford City Council has ordered the skips as part of the Cleaner, Greener Barton campaign.
The skips will be in place between 2pm and 4pm at Fettiplace Road near Atkinson Close, Fettiplace Road near Brome Place, Barton Village Road near Alderbarton Road, Burchester Avenue near Brampton Road, Bernwood Road near Ilsley Road and Bassett Road.
There will also be a recycling vehicle which can collect white goods including fridge freezers, washing machines, electrical items, scrap metal and mattresses.
Councillor John Tanner, board member for Cleaner, Greener Oxford, said: “Residents in Barton have done an excellent job in clearing up the area. It is beginning to look a lot tidier so let’s hope we can keep it that way.
“People have asked for these skips and the council is pleased to help residents get rid of their stored-up rubbish.”
Plasterboard, tins of paint and asbestos cannot be left in the skips.
The Cleaner Greener campaign, supported by the Oxford Mail, was launched in October 2009 and has been introduced to communities in Oxford, including Blackbird Leys, East Oxford and Jericho.
